4. IML PowerDrill Basics: Presets and switch between drilling speed and feed speed

With the drilling resistance measuring device IML-RESI PowerDrill, you can adjust drill bit RPMs and feed speed to various wood species to consistently get the most precise measurements possible. With the following instructions, you can accomplish this in no time.

How to increase feed speed incrementally

To switch among the preset feed speeds and thereby change the feed speed, simply press the black button while you are in the main menu. With each push of the button, you jump one feed speed higher.

Expanded mode for setting drill bit RPMs

First, you must activate the expanded mode to activate the RPM setting feature. You can change RPMs by 5 levels. Select the system control symbol on the right in the main menu using the navigation dial and press the navigation dial to confirm your selection. In the system control menu, select the option “Drill bit RPM” and press the navigation dial again. In the now displayed menu, select the option “mode” and press the navigation dial again. The expanded mode is now activated. With ‘”ok”, you go back one step in the menu navigation. Subsequently, press and hold the navigation dial until the main menu is displayed.

How to set the drill bit RPMs incrementally

After you have activated the expanded mode, press and hold the black button while you are in the main menu to change the RPM setting. With repeated pushing of the black button, you can select among the 5 RPM levels. When you press and hold the black button again, you return to the feed speed setting.

The recommended RPM setting is 2500 RPM.

Manual setting of feed speed and drill bit RPMs

For especially hard or soft wood, manual setting of feed speed and drill bit RPMs may be indicated. For this, return to the system control menu. Navigate to the menu item “feed speed” and then press the navigation dial. There, select the feed speed you wish to adjust. Subsequently, you can set the feed speed individually by changing the value using the number bar and the navigation dial.

Via the “ok” button, go back two menu steps and select the item “drill bit RPM”. After selecting an RPM level, you can also change the drill bit RPMs as desired using the navigation dial. When you return to the main menu, the values you entered manually are assigned to the corresponding feed speed or drill bit RPM level and selectable via the black button. For future measurements with the same feed speed and drill bit RPM, reentering the values is not necessary; you can set them directly by pushing the black button.
