Inspecting trees is no easy task – one is assessing a mechanical
structure whose operational loads are not precisely known.
The material properties of the tree, its stiffness, and strength are also
not precisely known. These properties vary from tree to tree and
within a single tree, depending on the location.
The anchoring of the tree in soil, which varies in firmness by location,
is invisible and also differs from tree to tree. Moreover, the structure
can be weakened or embrittled by visible or invisible wood decay. A
tree can even fail because it thrived too well.
In this VTA seminar, we practice how to approach this challenging
task using hundreds of examples in various locations, whether on
slopes or near water, along roads, close to buildings, or in forests.
The use of simple and advanced tools, including the IML-RESI
PowerDrill, as well as good and poor pruning techniques, will be
discussed. Low-tech and high-tech!
We analyze failure causes, discuss predictability and liability aspects,
and examine justification in the event of damage.
This seminar prepares participants for the daily challenges of tree
inspection and for real-life situations. It has been updated and
reflects the latest advancements in our research
